Mechanical Engineering Degree

The Mechanical Engineering Degree program at Peradeniya University has a 4-year time duration and the degree program is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers(IMechE). There is a mechanical specialization program with four categories that students can choose from according to their preferences and future plans. The first and second years are the same for all students and then specialize in the 3rd and 4th years. Exams are conducted at the end of each year.

Admission to the engineering degree program is determined by the UGC. South Eastern University and the Department of Mechanical Engineering provide a 4-year and 8-semester degree program. Faculty of Engineering Technology provides the degree program of Bachelor of Engineering Technology(BET) in Mechanical Engineering. Guided by the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka(IESL). This is a 4-year degree program and admission to the engineering degree program is determined by the UGC.

University of Vocational Technology

The faculty of Engineering Technology provides three mechanical-related degree programs that have entry qualifications. All of these degree programs have a 3-year time duration and the followings are the mechanical-related degree programs,

Diploma Courses for Mechanical Engineering

ITUM – Institute of Technology – University of Moratuwa(NDT)

Institute of Technology – University of Moratuwa is located at Diyagama, Homagama. ITEM has a Division of Mechanical Engineering Technology is provides a diploma program with a 3-year time duration. This is a Six Semester program and the first 4 semesters(2-years) full fill with the academic program and the 3rd year is fully filled with the Industrial Training Program to get hand on experience for the students in each engineering discipline. The Industrial Training Program is organized and monitored by NAITA.

IET provides the National Diploma in Engineering Sciences(NDES) program and is located at Katunayake. There are three examinations and Industrial Training called Basic, General, and Specialized. The followings are the Industrial Training time durations for 3 phases. All the industrial training is organized and monitored by NAITA.

• First Phase – Basic Industrial Training – 12 months
• Second Phase – General Industrial Training – 12 Months
• Third Phase – Specialized Industrial Training – 6 Months

Technical Colleges for Mechanical Engineering

Korean Tec (K-TEC)

Sri Lanka Korea National Vocational Training Institute is located at Bassline Road, Orugodawatta, Wallampitiya, and provides the following diploma courses.

• Automotive Technology
• Pneumatic and Hydraulic Technology

• Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Technology

AETI is a Japan Government granted Institute Located at Baseline Road, Orugodawatta, Wallampitiya. AETI provides full-time and part-time courses. The followings are the full-time courses,
